Greetings from Cherry Hill Park, College Park, MD 12/27

We left NH at about 3:30 pm on Christmas Day in an effort to avoid the snow. We made it to Maryland in about 11 hrs. with a couple of stops for dinner and fuel. We pulled into the Maryland Visitor Ctr. at about 2:30am to catch some sleep and wait for the campground to open.

The Cherry Hill Park Campground is in College Park, MD (where the U of Maryland is) and about an 30 min bus/metro ride into DC. The facilities are great, clean heated bathrooms. The weather has been so cold we're lucky to have access to running water and electric shore power. The View is pretty toasty.

We visited DC yesterday in very light snow, wind and very cold temps. We took a bus tour to visit the major monuments and get the "lay of the land". The National Christmas tree is huge and very pretty. We stopped off at Union Station to get hot cocoa and also enjoyed the Christmas decorations there.

Our last stop was the National Archives to see the Magna Carta, Declaration of Independence and Constitution. The building was renovated in 2003 and features two lovely murals depicting scenes of the signing of both the Constitution and Declaration of Independence by a NH artist. The kids were also pleased to see John Langdon's (of Portsmouth) signature on the documents.

Today has featured much needed hot showers and we're planning to head into DC to visit some warm museums.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the RV
packed bags are flying and tempers won't ease.
A blizzard is coming, causing a panic-
"We must leave early!"  I think my wife will go manic.
The kids are fighting and crying too.
"We'll miss all our friends boo hoo hoo."
Your friends will be here, it will all be the same.
"Oh Dad, how could you say that, you are just so lame."
The open road awaits us...how lucky are we.
To travel this great country there's so much to see!
The rush is on to hit the road...
We hope we can survive in our tiny abode.
To friends, family, and co-workers-A big THANK YOU!
You've helped make this happen-couldn't have done it without you.
We leave tomorrow...what are we thinking....
By journey's end there'll be lots of drinking!
We're heading south down good ole' I-95
There'll be plenty to keep the Christmas spirit alive.
A truck stop , a rest area...my gosh there's a lot.
We might even stay in a Wal-Mart Parking lot!
As you sit down to enjoy your big Christmas meal
Be thinking of us...perhaps sleeping behind the wheel.
Merry Christmas to you...and all that good stuff
From the soon to be weary travelling WanderLuffs!

November 2010 - The View

The kids and the View
We now have our 24 ft. Winnebago View for the WanderLuff. It is a very simple/compact design with a cab over double bed, a side settee that converts to a bed, and an aft queen sized bed.

We have a three burner stove top, convection microwave oven, and refrigerator. It is also equipped with a bathroom/shower combo.
