Big Bend National Park, Day Three- Chisos Basin

In front of the "Window"
We decided to move up to the Chisos Basin after three nights at the Rio Grande campsite. Chisos Basin campground is only accessible by small RV and cars. It is a green hollow at 5401 ft. surrounded by peaks, the highest of which is Emory Peak at 7825 ft!!! The scenery is breath taking- at the Ranger talk we listened to she called it a "sky island". This area was a completely different environment from the lowlands of the Rio Grande river.
Emory Peak!
