Big Bend National Park, Day Two Bike to Boquillas Canyon- by William

Today we had an 11.4 mi. round trip bike ride to Boquillas Canyon. It was a very challenging, hilly ride, but it was nice with the few downhills. After we arrived, we had to hike into Boquillas Canyon where the RioGrande River has carved its way into the cliffs.

Jesus on the other shore serenading us!!
When we hiked we saw a Mexican named Jesus, was on the other side of the river singing to us. He had a jar on our side of the river for tips! We gave him a small tip for his singing. He sounded amazing because his voice echoed through the canyon.

Touching Mexico!!

We walked down to the river and went swimming in the RioGrande to cool off. While we were swimming we swam over and touched the rocks on the Mexican shore! I stood on a rock on the other side of the river.

Can you see us up by the cave??
Once we were cooled off, Caroline, Dad, Peter and I hiked up a sand mountain along the cliffs. The san was so hot you had to sit down every once in awhile. I had to run to get any traction up the steep slope. At the top was a huge cave which we sadly couldn't get in! The way down the sand slope was especially fun because I did one cartwheel and gravity pulled me down the rest of the way.We swam again to rinse off and road our bikes back to the campground.

Overlooking the Sierra Del Carmen Mountains!!
Mom found another family from Rye, NH. Their son Dillon was in my sailing school last summer. We had a nerf gun fight, went for a hike and watched Megamind together that night! Dylan and Deven came over for pancakes and oatmeal the next morning.
